This week's guest was Andrea Bell, Chair of Global Health & Fitness Alliance. Below she shares her top 3 takeaways from the first ever report highlighting the tremendous economic and socioeconomic impact of the global health and fitness industry.
“The research covered in the report is a critical landmark for the health and fitness industry, governments, and workplaces globally. It clearly shows the economic impact of inactivity through evidential data.” – Andrea Bell
Andrea Bell is the Chair of GHFA (Global Health and Fitness Alliance) and the co-founder, director, and chief people officer of Inspire Brands Asia, the consortium that owns the master franchise license for Anytime Fitness Asia. Having started with Anytime Fitness as a franchisee seven years ago, Andrea is now a people-focused leader who focuses on culture, and building and retaining an exceptional team.
The Global Health and Fitness Alliance just released its Deloitte Report for 2022, and the findings are fascinating. We invited Andrea Bell, Chair of the GHFA, to highlight some key points of this 64-page report.
The report analyzed the fitness industry’s social and economic contributions to society.
Andrea Bell, chief people officer of Inspire Brands Asia, has a great story to tell. In this episode we hear how some of the hardships in Andrea’s journey led to her business success running one of the largest networks of gyms in Asia.
Andrea joined forces with one of our previous guests, Johannes Raadsma of episode 143, to purchase the master franchise agreement for Anytime Fitness across the region. This process, coupled with the hurdles of 2020 and 2021, has gifted her a wealth of knowledge and experience that she was happy to share in this interview.

The 14th Annual Women's Leadership Summit brings diversity and new perspectives to the industry. The Summit also raises awareness of the disparity of women leaders in the industry, particularly when it comes to club and company ownership. Representing the heavily male-dominated industry in Asia, Bell advocates for more female leaders in fitness and a more intentional drive toward that end. "Although Summit attendees may believe that our success is unique to us panel members and that they couldn't accomplish the same, we need to switch that thinking, show them what's possible, and push them in the ranks." ~ Andrea Bell
Boutique Fitness Solutions - Last Spring, McKinsey wrote that “the next two years will be more challenging than the last two years and what worked to help us navigate the last two years will be insufficient to help us navigate the next two years.”
If that’s correct, our Leadership Playbook must also be updated to reflect the new tumultuous times where, for example, “the spectacular collapse of Silicon Valley Bank has shown us one thing, it's the speed at which a bank run can take place in the digital age.” (Business Insider)
And, that’s only one example of how leading a team is vastly different and far more complicated than it was merely a few years ago. Furthermore, with the advent of ChatGPT and other recent innovations, it’s reasonable to assume that rapid change and turbulence is our new normal.
Are you prepared to lead your team through this turbulence?
We invited Andrea Bell, the Co-Founder & Board Director of Inspire Brands Asia, which owns the Master Franchisee rights for Anytime Fitness across 9 countries in Asia and which has over 300 Anytime Fitness clubs open and operating across Asia, to facilitate a roundtable discussion at The BFS CEO Summit titled,
“Leading Through Tumultuous Times - An Examination of Leadership Archetypes.”
